My reading list

Hi friends, I hope you had a lovely month of May! I thought I’d give a little update on what’s been going on with me lately. Truth of the matter is…not much. I’ve been on a trip or two and I seen some family and friends but outside of that I’ve been finding myself with a lot more downtime than usual. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m further away from everyone now or if I’m at a point in my life where things are quieter, but either way it’s certainly something I had to adapt to.

Time alone can be a beautiful thing, but it can quickly turn into boredom if you’re not careful. As I recall, I spent at least a month in this past season sleeping my life away. I was struggling with dream addiction (more on this later) and couldn’t find much of a reason to be awake. Nothing seemed exciting to me and I didn’t have the will to keep myself busy for the sake of spending my time wisely.

After a while, I realized there’s gotta be something to do (like chores, lawn work, or other housekeeping) so I figured why not do it with an audiobook!

I’ve learned that audiobooks are a perfect solution for someone like me who loves the read but can be quick to fall asleep with a book in-hand. Although I enjoy reading, it’s often something I have to be in the mood for and that mood doesn’t come by often.

Here are a collection of the books I’ve read so far this year:

January - No, You Shut Up by Symone D. Sanders

February - We’re Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union

March - Will by Will Smith (The Oscars slap prompted this read)

April - Colliding with Fate by AE Valdez

May - More Myself by Alicia Keys

I’ve learned a few things through my reading journey:

  1. Memoirs are definitely still my favorite types of books

  2. Spicy books can add some flavor to your love life 🌶

  3. There is power in telling your story and embracing your truths

  4. History can be taught through simple documentation of moments that matter to you and no one else

I hope you are enjoying phase 3 of the pandemic (the part where we pretend it’s over).

Until next time, I’ll be reading June’s book: Vanderbilt - The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty by Anderson Cooper

Please share your favorite memoirs as recommendations for my reading list!

XOXO. Sincerely, Takira
